"When we do not trouble ourselves about whether or not something is a work of
art, if we just act in each moment with composure and mindfulness, each minute
of our life is a work of art." Thich Nhat Hahn
Ohi'a Tree, Waimea Canyon in Hawaii
This photograph was taken with an old 1950 plastic camera (Diana) and plastic lens on color
film which gave the photograph a surreal look. I tried to capture what I felt while standing at
the edge of this vast and arid canyon during early afternoon. I had just finished taking
some black and white photos using a Hasselblad camera when I thought about the beautiful
rich colors. The sun was slowly piercing the clouds with a shaft of light I had never seen
before while the ground had a bright red, orange color as a result of the volcanic clay soil.
As soon as I took the photo, the sky went dark. ___________________________________________________
